Dear Singers, this is the preparation for your 8th seminar

!! Sapphire BLUE & RED are mixed at this seminar. Find the groups at cvi.my !!

PRESENTATION 17 – 37:
Read presentation no. 17–37 from the CVT workshop manuscript and prepare to present at least one presentation from 17-37. You will pick your presentation from a ‘hat’ in the session and present it and get the following feedback

MICROPHONE TECHNIQUE, HEAR YOUR VOICE: Read the following chapters in the book or in the App: Microphone Technique (216 – 219), Hearing your voice (283 – 286) + Studio and live techniques (287 – 290).
We will go through it theoretically and see how practical we can be.
For IRL groups: There will be time for 2-3 people to simulate a sound check, where we work on the sound and spheres of different microphones, singing with compression and communicating with a Sound Engineer.
For those who want that, prepare a part of a song with a backing track, that can be sung with a lot of variation in volume.

AA MUSICALLY PHRASES in each mode: (Part of the Microphone technique session) Prepare to sing musical phrases in each mode you can use for the workshops in the spring. We might not get through them all, so choose the one you find most challenging.

TEACHING CLASSICAL, TYPE OF VOICE:  Read about Classing singing in the CVT App and Handout File. Find ‘Classical singing’ in The Modes chapters (e.i. Neutral in classical singing, etc). Read no.37+51+60 in the CVT workshop manuscript.

SINGING WITH DA – OPEN BRAIN: Bring a song or phrases you would like to work on.
Open brain means: The CVI teacher will keep an ‘open brain’ and share the thoughts behind their technical and pedagogical choices in the sessions.

TEACHING EACH OTHER (TEO): The focus is still on ‘Scanning and decoding’. One from the group is singing and another from the group is teaching. The rest of the class will observe and the CVI teacher will supervise and give a small feedback after the session. Bring part of a song or phrase you would like to work on. No pianist is available.

TAKE THE LEAD, DON’T GET LOST IN DETAILS & TIPS AND TRICKS FOR PRESENTATION:
Just bring a pen, computer, tablet, etc. to make notes

SINGING STATUS B:
During the SWDA each of you will be asked to go to a separate room/join another link for a singing status for ‘mapping’ the voice and the ability to demonstrate the modes musically. This is not a test, but a way for us at CVI to detect where we can help each of you the best. Come prepared as you can with musical phrases (know which key) and follow up from singing status A.
• Prepare musical phrases in each mode (think main mode) in the low/middle part and the middle/high part of the voice. It’s okay to use the same phrase in one mode. Cover at least 3 different styles in your phrases.
• Prepare a phrase in the middle part of the voice in each mode with dark and light sound colours.
• Follow up from last singing status A.

The idea with the different musical phrases in each mode is to be able to demonstrate them in CVT workshops when presenting the modes both higher and lower. Like ‘selling’ the modes. You should decide on your starting note 🙂
