Twang in Neutral with and without air

Postby AnjaBybjerg » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:58 pm

Hello :)

I am reading the pages in the book about Neutral.

It says in p. 88 in the english book from 2008: "If you twang more in Neutral with air, the air on the voice often becomes more distinct" but...
then it says in the next page: "Twang will assist removing the air on the voice".

How goes this work?

Either twang removes air or it doesn't. I don't get the two sentenses, in my head they are the complete opposite.

Can someone please solve this for me :D

Hugs from Anja

• Adding air to Neutral is also adding a high frequency, a little bit of hissing sound. If you keep the air on the tone and add twang, that hissing sound will be amplified.

• Some times there is air in Neutral where you don't want it. That's what the other part is about: twanging can also be used as a method to get rid of the air.

I see how it may seem contradictory, but it really isn't! :?  Twang is an interesting component of the singing technique, that can be used to achieve many MANY different goals. The first part is about amplifying the frequency of the airy effect, the second is about helping the vocal cords to compress a little more, so that they don't let out the exrtra air.

Am I making sense…?

Marc.

That was what I understood myself when I read it :)
But thanks for explaining it in another way, it helped me a lot

I agree with Marc.
Twang:
used for singing healthily
for amplification of sound (also air)
for lighter sound color
for removing air

I often say: Twang is the solution to ALL your problems.

Adding: "If you have a row with your partner: Twang!"

Does that help…?

Does that help…?

No, that does not help.

Personally, twang hasn't helped in any of the modes i tried to learn (which is simply- all of them), and any of my vocal problems :)
I've set myself a goal - To center any mode up to G1, and be able to sing in tune using it
And i have given myself 6 months to achieve it - until the 15 of April 2013
If I won't: I'm going back to the superstitious SLS system. Or I'll pay CVI a visit :)
