Hi Everbybody

I wasn't very familiar with curbing until 6 months ago and I learned and practised it by using the famous hold.
Now I am wondering if there are tools too loose the hold a bit so it's for example more easy to change from Curb to Neutral. And could it be that If you loose the hold a bit it is more easy to reach (not very powerfull) high noted in curbing? I have the idea that I keep my hold pretty strong and especcially in the high tones it costs a lot of strenght and the sound is a bit 'pushed'
I tried already by sticking my tongue more to the front of my mouth because it was always more close to the back. it helps a bit, but anyone familiar with this issue and more advice?

Hi Rita,

Yes, you can vary the amount of "hold" and you have done the right thing by keeping it pretty strong in the beginning which helps to center the mode. A good way to loosen the "hold" a bit is to experiment going from a strong "hold" to no "hold". This means you go from Curbing to Neutral. You can also do it the other way around, going from Neutral to Curbing. Ex. use "I" in Curbing and then slowly let go of the "hold" and lower the volume while you switch to the "EE" vowel. Or start on "EE" in Neutral and slowly add the "hold" and increase the volume while you switch to the "I" vowel. You can of course use other Neutral and Curbing vowels if you find those easier. The key is to notice how much "hold" is needed in Curbing - it's a lot about experimenting and feeling and hearing the difference. And yes a lesser "hold" will usually make the higher notes easier.

Hi Rita, I agree with Hanmuller, but take care not to lose the metal ending up in Neutral on the high notes.
Try also to start in Overdrive on "EH" (watch the pitch) or Edge and simply change the vowel to "I" or "UH".
Keep teh setting in the vocal tract, dont think of Curbing when you are changing the vowel - simply change it.
This way youll steer clear of ending in Neutral anyway and hopefully find a less held back Curbing.
Also remember that Curbing in the high part is very powerful in volume.
Off course not as powerful as the full metal modes, but still...it needs a lot of volume and a lot of hard work for it not to go to Neutral.
